Click on any of the pictures below to play a game and practise Phase 3 Letters and Sounds.
Poop Deck Pirates
Before starting this game you can choose which set of graphemes you want to use from Phase
3 of the Letters and Sounds phonics programme. Then whenever you click New Coin a word will appear.

Sentence Substitution Game
Choose one of the sentences on the first screen and it will then appear as separate words.
Alternative words are displayed at the bottom of the screen. All of the words can be dragged around
to rearrange the sentence or substitute words. Needs an adult really to check that the sentences
make sense. Here are some teaching ideas for the game from Phonics Play.
Yes/No Silly Questions
Choose from four levels. A silly question will appear for you to read. All you have to do is
answer the question by clicking yes or no. If you are right, the dinosaur will get some food. From
ICT Games.
Blending Bingo
This makes a great game for the whole class using an interactive whiteboard but does need a bit
of preparation first. When the game loads you will need to choose the option to print off the
bingo cards (in PDF format). Next you can choose which group of sounds you want to work with before
starting the game. Click the "pull" button and the letters for one of the words will spin into
place. From ICT Games.
Picnic on Pluto with Obb and Bob
You can choose from different sets of GPCs at the start of this game so you can easily tailor it
to which letter sets your children have learnt so far. Click the Get Snack button and if the snack
has a real word on it, feed it to Bob. If not, feed it to Obb. There are some
usefulteaching ideas and printable resources for this game available from Phonics
Play.
Blending Sound Buttons
This is not really a game but a useful interactive whiteboard resource for teachers (although
children would have fun playing around with it). Choose the sounds you want and drag them into
place, then click the sound buttons to hear each sound. Kend Ed.
Pick a Picture
Look at the word on the screen, sound it out and blend the sounds. Click the picture which
matches the word. Click for teaching ideas and printable resources to accompany this game from
Phonics Play.
Phoneme Pop
Choose the phonemes you want to practise. You will hear and see your target sound then you just
have to click the bubbles that match the sound you're looking for. Try to make sure they land on
the grey area in the middle so that you get points. ICT Games.
Dragons' Den
Choose which sets of letters you want to work on first of all. Click the button to get an egg.
Sound out the word on the egg to see what it says. If it's a real word, feed it to the green
dragon. If it's a fake word, feed it to the red dragon. Get it right and the dragon will breathe
fire.
Foam Phonemes
The wheel on the right hand side can be rotated to show different selections of graphemes. Click
any of the graphemes to fire them out of the cannon and they will land on the water where
you can drag them into position to make a word. Whenever you click on a grapheme on the water you
will hear the sound it makes. Kent Ed.
Buried Treasure
This game can be customised in lots of ways to enable children to use it at different
stages of Phase 3. Put the fake words in the bin and the real words in the treasure chest. The
pirate will reward you if you are right with a tune and a dance. Teaching ideas for this game from Phonics Play.
